Trackside Safety System, Queensland Rail

Challenge: to visualise, test, review, develop and demonstrate complex integrated trackside safety systems in operating rail environments.

Solution: Innovative and integrated systems to protect trackside workers from accidents in the rail environment had been planned by Queensland Rail internally, but they needed to be rigorously tested and proofed for demonstration to the exective team.

Several integrated concepts ideas were tested in UC virtual space. An iteratove process of development occurred over several working sessions. A solution was developed integrating intelligent mobile devices, GPS mapping and robotics operated in safety zones. The links and behavioural timings between the drivers, operations centre and trackside working units were developed and resolved in detail. The solution was then built into an integrated 3D video production.

Result: A presentation to the board and executive to generate funding for the further development and rollout of the project.
